Our philosophy

Clients do not buy.
They become custodians.

"Our clients are borrowing items from the next generation. With their timeless design and time-honoured craftsmanship, holding a piece from Daniel Bailey is like holding time in your hand."

The leather is shown the respect it deserves as a unique medium. Each hide displays its natural characteristics and develops character with age. Each piece is stitched by hand using the famously durable saddle stitch.

A lifetime in your pocket
Shell Cordovan Card Wallet

Handmade from exceptional shell cordovan — chosen for its remarkable strength, smoothness and ability to develop a rich patina with age. Made to be carried for a lifetime, then passed on.

The less you interfere with the leather, the better it will age. Over time, small marks and changes in colour become part of its story.

Making it for you

Stay a while.
Who said you can't stop time?

Our studio is located in a converted forge in the heart of Northamptonshire — the home of English leather. There is time to think here, and to dwell over beautiful craftsmanship for you.

We have forged partnerships with local suppliers who know their craft inside out. The metal fittings come from a UK foundry established in 1832, carrying a royal warrant for the supply of saddlery materials.

The materials

The leather we choose

Italian vachetta, hand-finished with natural waxes. Most come unfinished — darkening and burnishing over time into a beautiful patina that belongs only to its owner.

Shell cordovan, developed with one of England's oldest tanneries. Vegetable tanned using tree bark and plant-based extracts. The more it is used, the better it becomes.

Our leather selection
i.
The leather
Each hide is chosen for its natural characteristics. The clicking knife cuts from hand-made metal-bound patterns — the name taken from the sound of the blade, unchanged for over a century.
ii.
The saddle stitch
Two needles, one thread, pulled through every hole by hand. Famously durable and impossible to replicate by machine.
iii.
The metal
Brass fittings from a UK foundry established in 1832 — carrying a royal warrant for the supply of saddlery materials.
iv.
The finishing
Edges burnished with natural waxes produced locally in Northamptonshire. Penny corners added. The DB stamp applied. The piece is ready for its custodian.

What custodians say

View the selection

These headcovers are in a different league. They've turned something functional into something genuinely beautiful. Every time I pull one from the bag, someone asks where it's from.

Ben B., Buckingham

I've carried my DB card wallet for ten years now, and it's aged exactly as promised — gracefully. It's rare to find something made with such quiet integrity these days.

James H., London

The leather is exceptional — dense, smooth, and full of character. It feels more like a small heirloom than an accessory. Pure, honest quality.

Thomas R., Edinburgh
